When Jose's mother becomes sick, he quits school and sacrifices his own dreams to care for her. Out of desperation, Jose becomes involved in smuggling drug money across the Mexican border. But, when he loses a suitcase full of money in the river, Jose is up against an enemy he can not beat, and one that will never go away.
Soon after he loses the suitcase, his mother dies unexpectedly. Three days later, an old man appears, walking all alone near the dirt road to Jose's home. When the old man can't make it into Laredo, Jose has a decision to make. Jose helps the old man get settled in Laredo, and as the relationship evolves, we begin to question just who is this old man and who is really helping who?
